hor he hor he hor

I'm working on a brand identity at the mo and I've been looking à la française for inspiration. I so want to pop to Par-ee now!

Girl about town

Really chuffed! Picked up a copy of local magazine 'About' whose front cover features my collage of the Kings Road in St Leonards on Sea. And that's not all. Inside there's an interview where I talk about Pen&Pringle and how I moved down and grew to love St Leonards on Sea. It's a lovely little piece and I must say a thank you to Hastings Borough Council for wanting to feature me.

Top tucker on the move

On my travels back from London last night I dined on the move and picked up an UP box (Urban Picnic box) from Clapham Junction. I was most impressed by the quality of the food but I think the packaging lets it down. The box is reminiscent of getting a book from Amazon - I can see where they're trying to go with this concept but it's simple shelf profile is perhaps too restrained and lacks an identity. And it seems a shame that UP's excellently presented food is hidden - I think UP should showcase their picnics through a cut-out window and use a thin plastic seal over the internal tray to protect the food. But if you're looking to grab a bite on the go, I'd definitely recommend their grub.

Birthday Bonanza

Is it just me or are there lots of birthdays in September? Must be all that merriness at Crimbo.

I seem to have bought an awful lot of birthday cards this month - but I love browsing for the right card. nineteenseventythree have a gorgeous collection from different designers. I'm hoping one day I might have a collection with them (one can dream).

On my hunt for a card with a difference, I came across this gorgeous 1950s birthday card that doubles up as a dexterity puzzle. You have to remove and replace the figure and ring without tearing or bending either.

The rhyme on the card reads:
"A birthday card that's really new,
For here's a puzzle just for you.
Now let's find out if you are quick,
To see the way to do the trick,
And if you can't - well don't despair,
Read at the back - it tells you there!!".

A lovely little piece of inspiration to go in my box of paper gems. A big happy birthday to all my September birthday buddies. xxx

The Papered Parlour

I adore making things and trying my hand at all sorts of crafts and it's great to see cool and quirky craft workshops cropping up all around the place. I love the Make Lounge in Islington and I'd read some good things about the Papered Parlour in Clapham. So on Saturday I did the Papered Parlour's screenprinting workshop. I made two totes which, granted, aren't amazing, but I've come away knowing how to screenprint from home so I'm now going to go crazy on Ebay and kit myself out with screenprinting supplies! Cue everything being screenprinted from hereon!

'Love is Like a Flower' print

I've really been getting into surface design and to whet your appetite, here's a little peek at one of my patterns which will hopefully be working it's pretty little way onto numerous bits and bobs in the not too distant future!

I love design that makes me happy and brightens up my day so I'm hoping I can brighten up other people's days too with this cheerful print.

Little things please little minds

I've been working hard on my new identity, website and online shop and it's all starting to come together quite nicely. And here we have my very first stamp which will mark all my lovely goods. Yes, perhaps I need to get out more often.
