A Wicked Wednesday

Well I've just had the greatest news!! Yours truly is a YCN Awards winner! Check out http://ycnonline.com/awards. My poor neighbours downstairs must be going crazy as I've spent the last 2 hours ringing all my family and friends bouncing up and down and screaming. I'm so chuffed as this award is kind of like affirmation that 'going back to school' and pursuing my passion for graphic design was the right decision.

Anyway, enough of the waffle. Here's a look at my winning entry:

Style magazine is a sacred supplement for followers of style. No glossy comes close in comparison and fashionistas nationwide abide by its content. My solution for Style's ad campaign plays on this bible like status, inspired by early bibles where beautiful illuminations (decorative illustrations) were created for sacred subjects.

Hidden amongst the illuminations are icons familiar to those 'in the know' which reflect the content of Style magazine, from hidden Louboutin's, antique tea plates and cutlery to problem solver Mrs Mills.

Oozing in sophistication, this highly elegant execution looks to position Style magazine as the leader in the market.

Talking of old people...

...I've been slaving over my final year project and have been deliberating over how to produce my local community. After many illustrations and fights with double sided tape, I think I've nailed it. Here's an example of my little old lady. Can't wait to show you the finished thing. Keep your eyes peeled!

I love old people.

Don't get me wrong, you can get some miserable old boots, but in the main, I've loved chatting to old people and hearing their wonderful stories. I love the lines that define an old person's face - I find them beautiful to photograph and draw.

I was sitting enjoying a mean brew the other day in a local cafe and this little old lady caught my eye. She looked quite scared and unsure and she didn't have a drink or anything. Then a chirpy chap joined her with a tray of tea and sausage rolls and her face lit up - beautiful.

You win some...you lose some

No success with this years D&AD Awards sadly. But there's always next year! Here's a selection of what I submitted this year. The brief: Design Packaging and POS for Homebase Grow Your Own range to communicate to novices how easy it is to grow your own fruit and veg. Having an allotment myself and being big on recycling, my concept was, growing your own is so easy, you can honestly grow fruit and veg "anyhow, anywhere".

D60 Magic

Took my new toy for a charity shop tour and came away with some magic moments.
